Solar Electrical
Worth being clear at the outset: we are electricians, not a solar company. We do the electrical infrastructure that a solar system connects to, and we work alongside whichever installer you choose.
That independence is the useful part. A solar sales company has an obvious incentive when it tells you whether your electrical panel needs upgrading, because the answer affects their quote and their close rate. We have no stake in whether you install solar at all, so if your existing panel is fine we will say so, and if it genuinely needs replacing before an array is connected, that assessment is not attached to a system sale.
The most common real finding is straightforward: an older or full panel cannot accommodate the additional breaker and backfeed a solar system requires, so the panel has to be replaced first. Solar quotes sometimes include this and sometimes discover it later.
Grounding is the other frequent issue. Rooftop equipment adds a lightning-exposed metallic structure to the house, and in Central Florida that makes a genuinely sound grounding and bonding system more important than it was before, not less.
