Light Installation
Replacing a light fixture is usually simple. The cases where it is not are worth knowing about before you buy the fixture.
The most common one is weight. A standard ceiling box is rated for a limited load, and heavier fixtures — larger chandeliers, substantial pendants, anything with real glass or metal mass — need a box rated and braced for that weight, fixed to structure rather than to drywall. The second is fan-rated boxes: an outlet box that will happily hold a light will not necessarily hold a ceiling fan, because fans add vibration to weight. The third is dimmers. Older dimmers paired with new LED fixtures produce flicker, buzz and a limited dimming range, and the fix is a compatible dimmer rather than a different bulb.
Exterior fixtures need to be rated for their location — damp for covered porches, wet where rain reaches them — and on the coast, salt air means fixture material matters as much as rating.
We are happy to do a single fixture. If you have a list, doing several in one visit costs considerably less per fixture than separate calls.

Troubleshooting
Nearly always dimmer incompatibility. Occasionally a loose neutral, which is worth ruling out properly.
Repeated early failures in one fixture suggest heat, vibration or a voltage issue rather than bad bulbs.
Usually a loose connection at the fixture or in the switch box, which will worsen if left.
Failed switch, or a three-way pair miswired so the two positions fight each other.
Audible hum under load usually means the dimmer and the load are mismatched.
Often thermal protection doing its job because the fixture is not rated for insulation contact.
